During Test

A blood test can be used to measure levels of various biomarkers, including hemoglobin and ferritin, which are indicators of iron-deficiency anemia. Depending on the specific test, a healthcare provider may also ask the patient to fast for a certain period or to avoid certain foods or medications before the test. During the test, a sample of blood will be taken from a vein in the arm using a needle. The process usually takes a few minutes and may cause mild discomfort or a slight pinch. After the test, a small bandage will be placed over the puncture site to prevent bleeding.
